News of the Brews – June 2017

News of the Brews – June 2017

A new listing this month – please welcome Electric Bear Brewing! We’ve had an eye on them for a while, and once there was a full range of freshly canned beers, we swooped. Werrrd! (4.2% American pale ale), Mochachocolata YaYa (5% coffee caramel milk stout), Verbena There, Done That, Got The T-Shirt (6% lemon Verbena tea IPA, collab with Wild Weather), Above The Clouds (6.2% IPA) and Surface Area (8.2% DIPA).

Alphabet Brewing Co continue in their admirable quest to bring reasonably-priced well-made beers to the people with the release of Charlie Don’t Surf (4% session IPA). For an explanation of the name: “Charlie Don’t Surf” is a famous line from the 1979 film Apocalypse Now, spoken by Lt. Col. Kilgore as justification for taking a beach at the Mekong Delta so the American soldiers could go surfing. American soldiers referred to the Viet Cong as “Victor Charlie”.

Yet more cans – you’d think it was a trend – from Manchester’s Marble Brewery. Brewed in collaboration with New Zealand’s Yeastie Boys, Liquid Cuddle is a 6.5% maibock (strong lager) liberally dosed with fruity Kiwi hops. And Mango is a 4.5% Kolsch-style beer with just a hint of mango in it – wonderfully summery and crushable.

Brew York are the latest brewery to brew some really exciting hop-heavy beers to go alongside their more accessible offerings. Eternal Hoptimist (10.5% triple IPA) is in fully craft craft-compliant 44cl cans, and X-Parrot (6.5%) is a tropical fruit IPA brewed in collab with Newcastle’s Errant Brewery. There are more of these specials coming too…

Whenever Wild Beer Co release a new beer, you know it’s going to be out of the ordinary. This month, and endorsed by an appearance on BBC Countryfile, we have Rooting Around (Spring), a 3% pale ale infused with shoots and buds of foraged birch and linden. And as if that wasn’t enough, in 75cl bottles we have Tepache, a 6% pineapple, cinnamon and clove sour (contains lactose).

In stock now (and selling fast), a canned special from Brewdog – Pump-Action Poet is 7.5% stone fruit (peach & apricot) IPA. Also back in stock from them, Vagabond gluten-free pale ale and alcohol-free Nanny State. There’s also a tiny bit of Abstrakt AB:20 available – a 14.5% tiramisu oatmeal milk barley wine (I’m not making this up, honest).

Many of you will have been made aware of the capacity issues facing Beavertown currently. Through a combination of careful planning and whispered threats, we’ve been able to maintain steady stocks of the whole core range thus far, although the next couple of weeks look quite tight, so apologies in advance for any issues arising. Spring seasonal Bloody Ell, packaged with 3 months date on it, has a month left, so we are offering the last few cases at the same price as Gamma Ray.

AND FINALLY, and breaking the cardinal rule of “it doesn’t exist if I haven’t seen it in the warehouse with my own eyes”, we have an inbound delivery from Odyssey Brew Co. Arriving early next week, Ego Wars 4 (6.5%) is a violently hoppy IPA featuring Equinox and Simcoe, and Left-Handed Zombie is a 5.4% red IPA brewed in collab with Left-Handed Giant.
